這兩處改動,使原本純粹的愛情童話具有更多現實感具体來說,本片其實拍的是一個「後全球化時代呼籲全球共同體」的童話,它講述的是由於兩位年輕人的相遇而打破冰山的一段故事—that is, a story of two closed-off empires reconnecting through the love between two young people. This makes the film's theme more universal and relevant to contemporary issues.
The film also highlights the importance of acceptance and understanding between different cultures and species. The main characters, Ariel and Eric, come from different worlds but find common ground in their shared values and interests. Their love story serves as a metaphor for the need for global cooperation and understanding in today's world.
However, despite its noble themes, the film falls short in its execution. The plot relies too heavily on convenient coincidences and contrivances, such as Ariel's ability to breathe underwater without any explanation or Eric's sudden decision to open up his kingdom to outsiders.
Moreover, the film perpetuates harmful stereotypes about women and their roles in society. Ariel is depicted as a naive and submissive character who sacrifices her own desires for love while Eric is portrayed as a strong-willed leader who must be convinced by others to do what is right.
In conclusion, while "The Little Mermaid" has some interesting ideas worth exploring, it ultimately fails due to poor storytelling choices that undermine its message of acceptance and cooperation. It remains an entertaining but flawed adaptation that could have been improved with more attention paid to character development and historical accuracy.
